We decided to resume our summer tradition of going on a hike every week as a family. This was the first weekend of good weather this year, it's been so crazy here! Because I am great with child, we chose an easy, paved trail that was relatively flat so that my back wouldn't go out on me. I'm glad we did it because it turned out to be quite educational. This was the area that the original settlers excavated the granite for the Salt Lake Temple and there were signs everywhere explaining the process and facts about the area. If you live near Little Cottonwood Canyon and haven't been there yet, take the time and go!
This is what it looked like working on the granite slabs in the canyon.

Finished product!
I love it when everything is still green.
Colton was pointing and telling which rock for Joe to step on.
Just another pretty pic!
Climbing a granite boulder.
Colton just wanted to stop on top of the boulder the whole time.
Colton would only drink if Joe would squirt the water on his mouth and then let the water drip on his head.
These are the rocks he collected on the walk. You can't see them well, but the two biggest rocks are white granite.

Your state has the coolest stuff! That looks like so much fun. And I love that you called yourself "great with child." Haha!
P.S. My word verification today is "brain." I think that means I'm really super smart. :)
