Colton is 3!

Well he's technically not 3 yet, but play along with us here. =)

Here is Colton's 3 year old "like and dislike" list:

LIKES

  • Waking up every morning with a chocolate milk. He comes into our room and cuddles for about 5 minutes and then forces one of us to get up and "watch cartoons and drink chocolate milk".
  • His other favorite drink request is "spicy juice". This means non-watered-down juice. He's gotten smart and has caught on that we do this and is not happy about it.
  • For breakfast his favorite is either oatmeal or Cheerios, he'll eat whatever for lunch, and for dinner he mainly just eats vegetables. He really will eat any vegetable that we give him and his most favorite is probably salad and dip (salad dressing). He is starting to warm up to eating proteins with his veggies, but he never really touches fruits or grains/bread with dinner.
  • Our driveway has a slight incline and he loves riding either his bike, car, or scooter down the driveway "really fast". We do this for about an hour every day. He also is always requesting to go on an adventure with these modes of transportation, so we take "adventures" to the mailbox, a neighbors house, etc.
  • His favorite toys are still his trains, trucks, anything with a trailer, cars, etc. He also has to take the time to line them all up every day.
  • He is still VERY social and wants to play with friends all day every day. Every morning I ask him what we should do that's fun today and his response is always, "let's play with ______!" He has lots of great friends and fortunately I love their moms, so it's always fun to get together. He gets so excited to go to church because it's just a big social event for him. During sacrament, he wanders off and sits with either Jacob or Phineas, or both. We really should pay them because they are essentially babysitting our son for us. Then he gets 2 hours of nursery with amazing teachers and a whole class of fun friends!
  • Colton loves helping outside with the garden, lawn care, filling the bird feeders, etc. As long as he's outside he's a happy camper. He gets calls from both sets of grandparents to help him with their yard every week and he always willing to help. He even has a cool pair of Lightning McQueen gardening gloves! And his own mower so he can follow behind his grandpa's as they mow.
DISLIKES
  • We've been working on potty training forever now and he still is not a fan of going poop on the toilet. He's not scared of it, he just doesn't want to do it except for once or twice a week. I took him to Target and let him pick out about 8 small toys and every time he does it he gets a toy, but that's still not motivation for him. Honestly, I haven't been pushing it too hard because next month he's going to have two pretty big changes in his life - a new sister and a new house. Once he gets adjusted to those two things I think I will start getting tougher.
  • He has no interest right now in learning his letters. He's really good at numbers, shapes, colors, street signs and can recognize his own name, but when I try to teach him how to recognize letters or draw them, he could care less.
  • Last year Colton was a little fish and would do anything in the water. This year, not so much. He clings to me pretty tight and won't go down the water slides. Other moms have told me this is normal and it's just a phase they go through and I hope they're right.
  • Colton won't take naps in his room anymore. He'll go to sleep fast in the car and he sometimes will do it on the couch during quiet time. He needs a nap and when he does fall asleep he'll be out for about 2 hours, so it's frustrating that he won't just do it in his room every day.
  • He's starting to believe monsters reside in various areas of our home. They apparently move every week and he will let me know which area is "scary" that week. This week it's a hall. Last week it was next to the fridge. He has quite the imagination!

Can I just tell you how sad it makes me that you won't be able to take walks to my house or sit with me at church when you move? You and Colton are two of my favorite people in the whole world!

Colton sure makes me happy! I love that he's figured out monsters! I bet that would be really scary. :)
